ELMIC Microcontroller Modules

Computing Power for Measurement and Control Devices

Using microprocessors in measurement & control applications calls for a substantial development effort, because a full processor system with a lot of components has to be designed and to be tested. The ELMIC modules release the OEM's from bothering about processor hardware, and they offer an immediately available starting point for software development.

The ELMIC modules are complete microprocessor systems with RAM, EPROM, EEPROM, analog inputs, and V24-interface. A large number of I/O-lines can be used for data input or output, as interrupts or for timer functions. Also available at the module's terminals are the data-bus and parts of the address-bus to enable addition of external devices. The modules are in the size of a credit card and are normally attached on a pc-board containing interface circuits, voltage supply, etc. The starter kits belonging to the modules comprise a detailed documentation and a collection of all software tools that are needed to develop and debug assembler programs. So the customer can immediately concentrate his development on the measurement or control application.

The user's source code is edited on a PC and then converted into object code by the compiler. After this the monitor program in the EPROM of the module is started. It performs download of the object code into the module's RAM and runs the user program. The monitor offers a variety of program control functions and debugging aids. In most cases, this procedure is simpler, cheaper, and even more efficient than using an emulator.
